Engineering partner for growth-stage companies
Start with the work
Writes and ships production code inside your product. A forward-deployed engineer owns features end to end, from the database and API to the screen your customer uses.
Connects the product to the real world: your customers’ data, single sign-on, payment and CRM systems, security reviews and the compliance questions that arrive with your first serious customers.
Sits close to users and stakeholders, turns what they need into technical decisions, and explains tradeoffs in plain language to founders, buyers and your own engineers.
Technical fit

On-site, hybrid or remote. We coordinate sourcing and interviews; you hire the person directly.
Final rates depend on experience, responsibilities and availability. Your US agreement with Odesa.co defines trial, notice, billing and replacement terms. For a defined delivery project or release review, explore custom development or Human QA.
Cost comparison

Planning assumptions: staff costs use preset salary × location factor × 1.30, compared with hourly rate × 2,080 hours. Recruitment compares an assumed $25,000 agency fee with Odesa’s $7,999 fee per hire; compensation is excluded. This is not a quote or guaranteed saving.
Your product context
A senior engineer reviews the codebase, data model, security and integrations, then gives you a prioritized fix list.
Engineers fix what blocks launch, with Human QA testers walking your critical journeys before real customers do.
A forward-deployed engineer stays on monthly to ship features, onboard customers and keep the product reliable.
Before you decide
A forward-deployed engineer (FDE) is a software engineer who works directly with a customer’s team and users to make software work in their real environment. The role combines three jobs: builder, integrator and translator. Palantir popularized the title, and AI companies now hire FDEs to move customers from pilots to production. Read our guide: what a forward-deployed engineer does and when to hire one.
A consultant advises and hands over recommendations. A staff augmentation engineer adds capacity to work your team already plans. A forward-deployed engineer writes production code and also works with your users and customers to decide what to build, so the role carries more context and judgment.
Common signals: a prototype built with AI coding tools that now has paying users, a first enterprise customer asking for SSO or a security questionnaire, data that needs a proper model and audit trail, or a founder spending more time on integrations than on customers.
Yes. We start with a production-readiness audit of the codebase, data model, security and integrations, then agree which fixes come first. Many AI-built apps can be hardened in place. When a part needs rebuilding, we explain why before any work starts.
Forward-deployed engineers join through staff augmentation from $45/hr on month-to-month terms. Your quote depends on experience, responsibilities and schedule. The audit and hardening sprint are scoped on a call and confirmed in writing before work starts.
During the hardening sprint, Human QA testers walk your critical journeys on real devices, such as signup, checkout and first-run, so problems surface before customers find them. Engineers then fix what the testers report.
They work remotely: offshore from the EU and Eastern Europe, or nearshore from Latin America, with overlap on US hours agreed before the start. You contract with Odesa.co, a US company in Lighthouse Point, Florida, so terms, billing and support stay in the US. If the role must be on-site or hybrid, direct recruitment covers that.
Yes. If you are a senior engineer who likes working directly with customers and taking products from prototype to production, see careers with Odesa and apply to join our bench.
